Description: This patch was the fourth and final issue of
our "Vigil Blanket patch". The basic design returned to a solid embroidery
background. In addition, the main design elements were cleaned up and
strengthened. The lettering was made more uniform. The bonnet trailer and
pipestem were clarified as were the elements of the dying campfire. Due to the
discovery in recent years of fakes of this design, we also incorporate the
element of the fdl hidden in the Red triangle above the "413". This issue
should be readily identifiable from prior issues, by the plastic backing, the
fdl and the cleaner design elements. For more on our use of this patch and the
Vigil Blanket see the description of the Blue Book J1. Each patch also
incorporated various hidden security features to ensure we can readily identify
any future reproduction. At the time of our merger with Lodge 160 in 2002, approximately 34 of these patches remained in inventory. The 413 Vigils voted to try to identify any former or current Vigil in our lodge that had never received them (because they received the Vigil prior to 1975) and award them one. Several have been used in this manner. We also allowed that as long as they lasted, any person inducted as a Brotherhood member in Lodge 413 who later receives the Vigil in another lodge, would also receive one. In both cases, the patch is presented attached to a blue blanket. As of October 2004, only about 8-10 remain for future award. No others will be produced. The revisions in this design were worked out by Mike Garner, Wayne Grommet, Randy Jenkins and Stephen White. |
