1962 5-C Conclave

1962 Section 5-C Conclave Patch

Description: This is perhaps the hardest to come by "unrestricted" patch that our lodge ever produced. Very few are seen now days. It represents both the first conclave ever hosted by Lodge 413 and also the only conclave ever held at (Old) Camp Cedar Valley near Hardy, Arkansas. At the time we were still part of the old Region 5 (When scouting had 12 regions).

Examples have been seen with and without the Green pocket loop. We do not know if the patch was made in both versions or if the loop was removed by scout to be worn sown on the shirt (as sometimes was done). It is generally believed that Jack Roy designed the patch.

Interestingly, notice that the arrow points to the wearers left. Perhaps the common practice in our early lodge of wearing flaps and the "Shield" on a neckerchief carried over into this patch as well. Shortly thereafter we know that the arrow was changed on our flaps (Blue Book F3) to point to the wearers right. Could there be some connection?

Because collecting of old conclaves, as well as a particular interest in old Region 5, have become a national area of interest, this issue is extremely difficult to obtain. Only a handful can now be confirmed in private collections.
