S2 Flap

Blue Book: S2

Description:  This issue is very similar to the S1, except the direction of the Green and Gray stitching is entirely horizontal. The issue resulted from a small reorder somewhere in 1967, probably as a result of seeing the remaining stock of the S1 being depleted faster than expected. It is our opinion that fewer of the S2 issue are seen in collections and sales probably indicating that a single run was produced before the next issue was designed and ordered. The issue is sometimes referred to within the lodge as the "Odd-Green" or "Off-Green" issue due to the darker Green border.

In 2002, several examples were examined at the pre-NOAC TOR, which had a differing spacing to the lodge name. The spacing of the lodge name differs between the name parts "Lo Ha" differs on several examples. After examining approximately a dozen examples, it was found that parts of the lodge name have been restitched along with the letter "C" in the initials "EAC". From the back, this appears to be an intentional repair job and it is now our opinion that this was done by the manufacturer to repair perhaps omitted lettering on a quantity of flaps. One example even exists where the lodge name was fixed, but the "C" was omitted. The example above has the compressed lodge name and a noticably smaller, offset "C". From the back, the lodge name is normally black thread, but the reworked areas have a white loom thread base.
