S35 Flap

Blue Book: S35

Description:   This flap was issued at the request of the lodge 413 LEC to commemorate the formal merger of lodge 413 with lodge 160. The merger was initially directed to occur at the end of August, but a few weeks prior it was decided to allow the lodge to continue separately until 12/31/2002 when the charter expired for lodge 413.

The flap was generally based on the S31 design, with the inclusion of the dates, 1949 - 2002, marking the years during which lodge 413 was chartered in the northeast part of Arkansas. The traditional location of council initials was replaced with an fdl design since EAAC no longer existed by this time. The intention was that the flap would be very limited in quantity. Each member or former member could get a restricted number, making it special, once we merged.

The issue process involved each member currently registered receiving a card by which they could order up to two flaps. Once the deadline had passed, former registered members were allowed to buy one flap. It was not anticipated that any would remain thereafter, and no more runs were made. Nearly all available were sold in this manner with perhaps 30-40 being left that were sold at our final Vigil induction in September.

The flap is generally called a "white ghost" or "death flap" since it marks the end of the officially chartered history of lodge 413 in this area. The design was developed by Stephen White.

Period of Issue:   June - August 2002.
Restrictions:       Two per registered member; then one per former member if any remained.
Quantity Issued: 500
Characteristics:   White throughout design; "1949 - 2002" marking; "White Ghost" or "Death Flap", 58x128mm.
