Description: This flap (and the variant S3b) were part of
our first set of three flaps intended to distinguish different levels of
membership in the OA. This issue was intended for wear by Ordeal members and as
the preferred flap for those wishing to trade flaps. The S3a and S3b both have
five small trees that do not look much like cedars. Even now, this series is
very common and not hard to acquire. Many were traded around the
country. Also at this time the council initials were corrected from Eastern Arkansas Council (EAC) to Eastern Arkansas Area Council (EAAC). This is perhaps 20 years after it had been corrected on various other insignia such as camp patches. |
Period of Issue: Apx 1969 to 1974
Restrictions: None Quantity Issued: 1500 + (Both Variants) Characteristics: Thick horizontally stitched small trees; 52x113mm. Third small tree 5.0mm at base, fifth small tree 4.0mm at base. The small trees on this series, are plan triangular shapes that bear little similarity to cedar trees. |
