S8 Flap

Blue Book: S8

Description: As part of the 1973 reorder (see issue S6), this was the resulting Vigil flap. As with the Ordeal and Brotherhood flaps, the appearance of the triangular 'pine' trees was updated to have more of a 'cedar' look. Again, this issue was not intended to be traded and unlike the corresponding Brotherhood flap, generally was not traded. It is very likely only a single order of the flap was manufactured, with the first order lasting during the entire period of issue. Also like the earlier Vigil flap this issue is difficult to find, although it seems to usually mint when it is found.

Another aspect of all our Vigil flaps is to consider that the active Vigils was a modest size group typically numbering between 30-45 at any one time. When flaps were ordered, it was rare that all of prior orders were exhausted. This would result in a period of time, perhaps even a couple of years, when more than one version would be available. Through the 1970's there really was very little focus on the different versions. New Vigils would often prefer the newer issue of a flap or pay little attention to purchasing ones that might even be from different orders. All these factors make the period of use particularly of our Vigil flaps, very overlapped.
