Description: In 1973, Jack Roy, who continued as our
camp director, decided to encourage camp attendance by again offering a discount
for registering by an "early registration" deadline. Each scout who did so was
to receive a special "early registration" patch, much as had been done at old
Cedar Valley from 1963 to 1966.
Jack apparently took the outline of our regular camp patch and used it to sketch a general idea. He intended for the manufacturer to take the concept and offer a few ideas. Unfortunately, and we really don't know how, his concept drawing became the order! Jack wasn't pleased but it was too late so the patch was used anyway. The resulting patch however was not very well received and few were actually worn. There should have been a large number produced but since not very many got distributed we cannot account for why they are so hard to come by today. Perhaps, in one of Jack's well known "burn the old junk" days, he burned the extra's of this patch. |
